Parallel Play in Red and Blue (2025)

These sculptures explore the idea of ‘parallel play’. Generally used to describe how toddlers play with one another, I find that my children and I also do that. This piece of work was developed during my Artist in Residency in Motherhood (ARIM). During that time I was making work about my experiences as both an artist and mother: searching for the points where my roles intersected. I spend a lot of time playing LEGO with my children and while they made their own models, I realised I did too in my own style. These sculptures build on another piece I made during my ARIM (30 pieces [1-9], 2023). As a material, lego works well to create geometric forms so I ordered more pieces in my colours to create these 12 sculptures.
