Newborn Parents Quilt (2024)

Commissioned by Helix Arts, as part of Creative Central Newcastle’s knowledge and skills pilot projects. I set up a group called Newborn Parents and together with writer Amanda Quinn created a space to hold birthing parents with their new babies. Through writing exercises over the course of 6 weeks, we explored this important transitional time. I made this quilt, which was made with my worn linen duvet cover after years of use with my own children. Dyed with tea to reflect the need for caffeine and comfort in those early days, I embroidered their words into the work. It was on public display in the window at the Tyne Theatre and Opera House, Newcastle for three months (March-July 2024). The project was funded by The North of Tyne Combined Authority and Newcastle City Council.
