Finding Space (2025)

These three pieces explore the idea of finding space both within your body for your baby to grow but also finding some space to be on your own. The lines represent days: with some days feeling longer, represented by wider lines. The two-colour lines represent finding space either at the edges of the day or within the middle of the day. The early years can involve almost constant contact, creating a strong desire for physical space. This was exacerbated by the pandemic for many.

Part of my process is to make a study and/or a textile ‘sketch’ of a piece of work before I do a final piece. I find it interesting to see the finished work across different mediums and to consider how they communicate the message of the work differently.
